Our Story

In March 1989, the first statewide meeting was held to discuss issues facing the field of Reflexology. Three authors, eight teachers, five schools or methodologies, two associations and three states were represented among the thirty participating Reflexologists.
Over the next three years, several meetings were held in the Los Angeles area and Sacramento to discuss by-laws, legislation, membership, communication, licensing, mission, standards, and goals. Since its founding in April, 1992, by a small core group of practitioners, teachers, and supporters, the Reflexology Association of California (RAC) has grown to become a globally recognized organization known for its integrity, commitment to education, and dedication to Reflexology state and worldwide.

The Reflexology Association of California is committed to advancing the profession of Reflexology through continuing education, legislative activity, and developing public awareness of the benefits of Reflexology.

The Reflexology Association of California (RAC) does not determine whether you can practice Reflexology or not, but works to support our members' right to practice as a separate discipline and provides current information about our profession. RAC has been involved with legislation at the State level for years, working toward exemption for Reflexology if a statewide massage law is passed. There are some California cities or counties in which reflexologists have gained a written exemption for reflexology in the massage ordinance. Reflexology also has its own law in five states: North Dakota, Tennessee, New Hampshire, Washington and Nevada.
